John 7:29
"Jesus therefore cried out in the temple, teaching and saying, “You both know me, and know where I am from. I have not come of myself, but he who sent me is true, whom you don’t know."
Key Reflection
Jesus' statement in John 7:29 was a bold declaration that resonated deeply within the temple where the religious leaders and people were gathered. By asserting his divine mission, Jesus was challenging their understanding of who he was and why he had come. His audience would have recognized that traditionally, messengers or prophets came from established religious authorities or known holy men; by saying he had been sent by a “true” one whom they did not know, Jesus was explicitly claiming a unique and direct divine commission, setting himself apart from their expectations of a mere human rabbi.
