John 10:9

"All who came before me are thieves and robbers, but the sheep didn’t listen to them."

Key Reflection

Jesus contrasts himself with false shepherds or leaders who claimed authority over the people but were actually deceptive and harmful, much like thieves and robbers. By claiming that his listeners did not heed these false teachers, Jesus emphasizes the importance of following him as the true shepherd who provides genuine guidance and protection.

From the Scholars: Barnes' Notes

Verse 9. By me. By my instruction and merits. Shall be saved. See Joh 5:24. Shall go in and out, &c. This is language applied commonly to flocks. It meant that he shall be well supplied, and defended, and led "beside the still waters of salvation." __________________________________________________________________
