Job 8:14

"So are the paths of all who forget God. The hope of the godless man will perish,"

Key Reflection

The paths of those who forget God are likened to paper-reeds, which seem prosperous but quickly wither. Thus, the hope of the godless, though it may flourish for a time, ultimately fades and perishes.

From the Scholars: Barnes' Notes

Whose hope shall be cut off -Schultens supposes that the quotation from the ancients closes withJob 8:13, and that these are the comments of Bildad on the passage to which he had referred. Rosenmuller and Noyes continue the quotation to the close ofJob 8:19; Dr. Good closes it atJob 8:13. It seems to me that it is extended further thanJob 8:13, and probably it is to be regarded as continued to the close ofJob 8:18. The beginning of this verse has been very variously rendered. Dr.
