Job 41:29

"The arrow can’t make him flee. Sling stones are like chaff to him."

Key Reflection

In Job 41:29, the image suggests that even powerful forces like arrows cannot deter the mighty Leviathan, symbolizing the unyielding power of God's presence and judgment. For a modern reader, this implies that no earthly threat or challenge can overpower God’s will and might.

From the Scholars: Barnes' Notes

Darts are counted as stubble -The word rendered “darts” (תותחtôthâch) occurs nowhere else in the Scriptures. It is fromיתח, obsolete root, “to beat with a club.” The word here probably means clubs. Darts and spears are mentioned before, and the object seems to be to enumerate all the usual, instruments of attack. The singular is used here with a plural verb in a collective sense.
