Jeremiah 51:12

"“Make the arrows sharp! Hold the shields firmly! The LORD has stirred up the spirit of the kings of the Medes, because his purpose is against Babylon, to destroy it; for it is the vengeance of the LORD, the vengeance of his temple."

Key Reflection

This verse envisions divine judgment on Babylon through the concerted action of the Median kings, symbolized by their readiness with weapons. It emphasizes God's sovereignty and justice, as He uses earthly rulers to fulfill His purposes of vengeance for the desecration of His temple.

From the Scholars: Barnes' Notes

Upon the walls of Babylon -Or, “against the walls.” The King James Version takes the word ironically, as a summons to Babylon to prepare for her defense; others take it as a summons to the army to make the attack.
