Jeremiah 46:16

"Why are your strong ones swept away? They didn’t stand, because the LORD pushed them."

Key Reflection

In Jeremiah 46:16, the prophet addresses Egypt's military strength being unexpectedly defeated and its warriors failing to resist. The original audience, familiar with Egyptian might, would have been shocked by this prophecy, seeing it as a divine judgment from Yahweh, who had intervened to bring about the defeat. This verse reflects God’s sovereignty over even the most powerful nations of the time, demonstrating that no one can stand against Him.

From the Scholars: Barnes' Notes
