Jeremiah 43:11

"Tell them, the LORD of Armies, the God of Israel, says: ‘Behold, I will send and take Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, my servant, and will set his throne on these stones that I have hidden; and he will spread his royal pavilion over them."

Key Reflection

Nebuchadnezzar, identified as a servant of the LORD, is foretold to establish his authority in Egypt. This prophecy would have been understood by the original audience as a reassurance that despite their immediate distress and captivity, God was still sovereign and would bring about His will through the Babylonian king. The imagery of setting up a throne on hidden stones symbolizes the unexpected yet divinely ordained nature of this event, emphasizing divine control over the geopolitical landscape of the time.

From the Scholars: Barnes' Notes

According to each man’s destiny, he will either die of famine, pestilence, or in battle; or he will be led captive; or be put to death by the executioner.
