Jeremiah 43:10

"“Take great stones in your hand and hide them in mortar in the brick work which is at the entry of Pharaoh’s house in Tahpanhes, in the sight of the men of Judah."

Key Reflection

This command to hide stones inside the brickwork at Pharaoh’s house in Tahpanhes would have been a cryptic and unsettling instruction for Jeremiah's audience. In ancient Egypt, buildings were often constructed using mud bricks held together with mortar, making such an action a subtle and significant act of concealment. The prophet was likely preparing his listeners to later uncover these stones, perhaps as a sign or prophecy that would provide them clarity when they returned from their Babylonian exile.

My servant -SeeJeremiah 25:9note. That I have hid -i. e., that I have embedded in the mortar by the instrumentality of my prophet. Pavilion -Rather, canopy. It probably means the parasol held over kings, which had a tall and thick pole, grasped with both hands, and in the early times a somewhat small circular top.
