Jeremiah 32:8

"‘Behold, Hanamel the son of Shallum your uncle will come to you, saying, “Buy my field that is in Anathoth; for the right of redemption is yours to buy it.”’”"

Key Reflection

This verse highlights the theme of redemption, as Hanamel's offer to sell his field to Jeremiah symbolizes God’s promise to redeem His people Israel. The right of redemption being explicitly stated underscores that this transaction is not just a personal matter but a divine appointment for restoration.

From the Scholars: Barnes' Notes

The right of inheritance is thine -Hanameel therefore had no children, and at his death the land would have been Jeremiah’s by right of birth. According to the LawNumbers 35:5, it must have been part of the suburbs of Anathoth, within less than a mile, which was all the priests and Levites might cultivate.
