Jeremiah 25:10

"behold, I will send and take all the families of the north,” says the LORD, “and I will send to Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, my servant, and will bring them against this land, and against its inhabitants, and against all these nations around. I will utterly destroy them, and make them an astonishment, and a hissing, and perpetual desolations."

Key Reflection

This passage signifies the divine judgment on the northern kingdoms, including Nebuchadnezzar as God's instrument to bring destruction upon Judah and its neighbors. It underscores God’s sovereignty over nations and His intent to fulfill his prophetic word through historical events.

From the Scholars: Barnes' Notes

Take from them ... the sound of the millstones, and the light of the candle -(or, lamp). To denote the entire cessation of domestic life. The one was the sign of the preparation of the daily meal, the other of the assembling of the family after the labors of the day were over.
