Jeremiah 2:6

"The LORD says, “What unrighteousness have your fathers found in me, that they have gone far from me, and have walked after worthless vanity, and have become worthless?"

Key Reflection

The LORD challenges the Israelites by asking what wrongdoing they perceive in Him that would justify their departure from his covenant. This question, posed to a people who had recently experienced the Babylonian exile, would resonate deeply as it highlights how their ancestors had accused God of injustice, yet He had been faithful. The original audience would have recognized this as a rhetorical device, emphasizing God’s unwavering righteousness and the Israelites' persistent unfaithfulness despite His consistent grace and mercy.
