Jeremiah 10:16

"They are vanity, a work of delusion. In the time of their visitation they will perish."

Key Reflection

In Jeremiah 10:16, these verses underscore that idols and false gods are empty and deceptive; they offer no true protection or lasting value. Thus, in the judgment of God's timing, such vanities will be destroyed.

From the Scholars: Barnes' Notes

The portion, of Jacob -i. e., Yahweh. He is not like gods made by a carpenter and goldsmith. Of all things -literally, of the all, the universe. The rod of his inheritance -SeePsalms 74:2; compareIsaiah 63:17. The rod is the scepter, and Israel the people over whom Yahweh especially rules.
