Isaiah 51:7

"Lift up your eyes to the heavens, and look at the earth beneath; for the heavens will vanish away like smoke, and the earth will wear out like a garment. Its inhabitants will die in the same way, but my salvation will be forever, and my righteousness will not be abolished."

Key Reflection

This passage encourages believers to trust in God’s eternal promises over transient earthly conditions. It contrasts the temporary nature of the physical world with the enduring nature of divine salvation, reassuring that while all created things fade away, God's righteousness and deliverance will last forever.

From the Scholars: Barnes' Notes

Hearken unto me, ye that know righteousness -My people who are acquainted with my law, and who are to be saved. This is addressed to the pious parlor the Jewish nation. Fear ye not the reproach of men -If we have the promise of God, and the assurance of his favor, we shall have no occasion to dread the reproaches and the scoffs of people (compareMatthew 10:28).
