Isaiah 30:25

"The oxen likewise and the young donkeys that till the ground will eat savory feed, which has been winnowed with the shovel and with the fork."

Key Reflection

In Isaiah 30:25, the prophet describes a future time when agricultural productivity will dramatically improve under divine judgment. The verse portrays oxen and young donkeys, typically beasts of burden, consuming finely sifted and prepared fodder, a symbol of abundant and high-quality resources. This imagery contrasts with the current hardship experienced by the people of Israel, indicating that even the lowliest animals will benefit from God’s salvific intervention, highlighting both divine justice and eventual prosperity.

From the Scholars: Barnes' Notes

In the day of the great slaughter -When the enemies of the people of God shall have been destroyed - probably in a time subsequent to the slaughter of the army of the Assyrians. When the towers fall -The towers of the enemy; perhaps referring here to the towers of Babylon. After they should fall, the Jews would be favored with the time of prosperity to which the prophet here refers.
