Haggai 1:9
"“You looked for much, and, behold, it came to little; and when you brought it home, I blew it away. Why?” says the LORD of Armies, “Because of my house that lies waste, while each of you is busy with his own house."
Key Reflection
In Haggai 1:9, the Lord through His prophet questions why the people of Judah have been unsuccessful in their efforts, despite looking for much. The imagery suggests that while they worked hard and brought home what they thought would be substantial rewards, the Lord ultimately allowed these efforts to wither or fail. This divine response is set against the backdrop of a neglected temple, which remains unfinished. By contrast, each individual was focused on rebuilding their own homes. This verse underscores the priority God places on His house over personal pursuits, highlighting the importance of devotion and service to Him before attending to one's own needs.
