Ezekiel 7:20

"They will cast their silver in the streets, and their gold will be as an unclean thing. Their silver and their gold won’t be able to deliver them in the day of the LORD’s wrath. They won’t satisfy their souls or fill their bellies; because it has been the stumbling block of their iniquity."

Key Reflection

Ezekiel 7:20 paints a vivid picture of the devastating economic and spiritual consequences that will befall the people during divine judgment. The silver and gold, once symbols of wealth and prosperity, are rendered worthless; they cannot protect the individuals or satisfy their deepest desires in times of God’s wrath. This verse underscores how material possessions, which should bring contentment, become a trap that leads to further sin and suffering, highlighting the futility of relying on earthly treasures during trials from the Lord.

Or, And “the beauty of his ornament, he” (the people) turned “it” to pride. Have I set it far from them -Rather, as in the margin - therefore have I made it their defilement and their disgrace.
