Ezekiel 16:44

"“‘“Because you have not remembered the days of your youth, but have raged against me in all these things; therefore, behold, I also will bring your way on your head,” says the Lord GOD: “and you shall not commit this lewdness with all your abominations."

Key Reflection

In Ezekiel 16:44, the Lord GOD contrasts Israel's present rebellion with her past obedience, reminding her that by forgetting her covenantal loyalty and acting in defiance, she will face consequences that mirror her own wrongdoing—highlighting the justice of divine retribution. This passage underscores the theme of remembering one’s spiritual heritage to avoid repeating past sins.

From the Scholars: Barnes' Notes

The Jews prided themselves on being under the special protection of Yahweh. In the downfall of their neighbors, they found only additional grounds for confidence in their own security. Ezekiel now in severe rebuke places them on an equality with Sodom and Samaria. Alike have been their sins, except that Judah has had the preeminence in guilt. Alike shall be their punishment.
