Esther 4:9

"He also gave him the copy of the writing of the decree that was given out in Susa to destroy them, to show it to Esther, and to declare it to her, and to urge her to go in to the king to make supplication to him, and to make request before him for her people."

Key Reflection

Mordecai gave a copy of King Ahasuerus’s decree to Hathach, instructing him to deliver it to Esther and explain its contents. This decree, issued in Susa, ordered the destruction of the Jews, and Mordecai urged Esther to intercede with the king on behalf of her people, risking her life by entering his presence unsummoned. The original audience would have understood the gravity of this command, recognizing the potential for a dire outcome if Esther did not take action, as the decree was issued in an imperial context where such orders were binding and difficult to reverse.
