Key Reflection

This opening identifies Paul as divinely appointed to spread the gospel, paralleling his role with that of Timothy, emphasizing a collaborative ministry. It underscores both their spiritual kinship and shared mission in spreading Christ's message.

From the Scholars: Barnes' Notes

Continuation of Introductory Notes to Colossians THE EPISTLE FROM LAODICEA. IN Col 4:16, of this epistle, the apostle gives this direction: "And when this epistle is read among you, cause that it be read also in the church of the Laodiceans, and that ye likewise read the epistle from Laodicea." The former part of this verse is clear; and the direction was given, doubtless, because the churches of Colosse and Laodicea were in the vicinity of each other, and the instructions were adapted to both churches. Doubtless the same form of philosophy prevailed, and the churches were exposed to the same errors.
