Zechariah 6:11

"“Take of them of the captivity, even of Heldai, of Tobijah, and of Jedaiah; and come the same day, and go into the house of Josiah the son of Zephaniah, where they have come from Babylon."

Key Reflection

Zechariah 6:11 instructs certain individuals—specifically Heldai, Tobijah, and Jedaiah—who were part of the exiled community in Babylon to return on that same day to Josiah son of Zephaniah's house. This verse is situated within a larger context of post-exilic restoration, where returning from captivity was seen as a significant step toward rebuilding Jerusalem and restoring the nation of Israel under divine providence. The original audience would have understood this command as part of a broader effort to repopulate and rebuild the city, recognizing these exiles as key figures in the process of reestablishing the community's social and religious structures.

From the Scholars: Barnes' Notes

And make crowns -Or a “crown” , as in Job, “I would bind it as a crown unto me,” and our Lord is seen in the Revelation, “on His Head were many crowns” . The singular is used of “a royal crown” , apparently of a festive crown ; and figuratively; (Job 19:9, (plur.Job 31:36)Proverbs 4:9;Proverbs 12:4;Proverbs 14:24;Proverbs 16:31.Proverbs 17:6;Proverbs 17:6); even of Almighty God Himself as a crown ; but no where of the mitre of the high priest.
