Psalms 64:7

"They plot injustice, saying, “We have made a perfect plan!” Surely man’s mind and heart are cunning."

Key Reflection

In Psalms 64:7, the psalmist describes the wicked as plotting unjust schemes with confidence in their own cleverness, declaring, "We have made a perfect plan!" This verse captures the arrogance and self-assurance of evil doers who believe they can devise schemes that will go undetected or unchallenged. The psalmist contrasts this with the ultimate judgment of these plans: "Surely man’s mind and heart are cunning," indicating that while the wicked may be crafty, their plots ultimately fail because God sees through them and brings about His own justice. This verse reflects a broader theme in Psalms where the righteous trust in God's wisdom and justice to prevail over the deceptions of the wicked.

From the Scholars: Barnes' Notes

But God shall shoot at them with an arrow -That is, Instead of their being able to carry out their purposes of shooting the arrows which they had prepared against others, God will shoot his arrows against them. The tables will be turned. They themselves will experience what they had intended to inflict on others. God will deal with them as they intended to deal with others. The sentiment here is substantially the same as inPsalms 7:15; see the notes at that passage.
