Key Reflection

In Psalms 40:8, the author speaks of his divine call and purpose through the declaration that he has come as foretold by God's word. This verse highlights a profound sense of divinely ordained service and fulfillment of prophetic destiny, suggesting that the psalmist's actions are in accordance with what was previously written about him. This idea of being called to fulfill a specific role is significant within the broader context of biblical narrative, where numerous figures experience their lives as scripted by divine purpose.

From the Scholars: Barnes' Notes

I delight to do thy will, O my God -To wit, in obeying the law; in submitting to all the trials appointed to me; in making an atonement for the sins of men. See the notes atHebrews 10:7. ComparePhilippians 2:8;Matthew 26:39. Yea, thy law is within my heart -Margin, “In the midst of my bowels.” So the Hebrew. The idea is, that the law of God was within him. His obedience was not external, but proceeded from the heart. How true this was of the Redeemer it is not necessary here to say.
