Psalms 110:1

"Psalms."

Key Reflection

In first-century Palestine, Psalm 110:1 would have resonated deeply due to its rich historical and prophetic significance. This verse, originally part of a royal psalm celebrating the triumph of Davidic kingship, was later interpreted by early Christians as a messianic prophecy about Jesus Christ. The phrase "The LORD says to my Lord" created tension because it juxtaposed two distinct lords: one representing God, the other likely referring to an earthly king or even a future Messiah. This dual-layered meaning pointed forward to the unique relationship between God and his suffering yet victorious servant-king in the life of Jesus.
