"My eyes will be on the faithful of the land, that they may dwell with me. He who walks in a perfect way, he will serve me."

Key Reflection

In Psalms 101:6, David expresses his commitment to maintaining justice and righteousness among the people of Israel. He states that his eyes are upon those who remain faithful and true to their covenant with God, ensuring they will dwell in his presence. The verse also emphasizes that individuals who adhere to a perfect way of life will be entrusted with serving God, reflecting both divine oversight and the responsibilities of leadership within the community.

From the Scholars: Barnes' Notes

Mine eyes shall be upon the faithful of the land ... -I will look to them to be employed in my house, and in my service. The word rendered “faithful” means those who are worthy of belief or confidence. It does not “necessarily” mean those who are pious or religious - though it is often used to denote such persons, in reference to the principal trait in the character of the pious, that is, confidence or faith in God. The essential meaning here is, that he would seek those who were trustworthy; on whom he could place reliance; whose truth, fidelity, and honesty he could confide in.
