Proverbs 24:11

"If you falter in the time of trouble, your strength is small."

Key Reflection

Proverbs 24:11 teaches that during times of difficulty and crisis, true strength is revealed. If one falters under such trials, it indicates a lack of genuine resolve or trust in God. This verse underscores the idea that moments of testing are crucial for discerning a person's true character and faith, as only those with unwavering trust in divine providence can maintain their composure and strength. The cultural context here is rooted in the understanding that ancient Israelites often faced severe hardships, making it vital to demonstrate steadfastness and rely on God during such trials.

From the Scholars: Barnes' Notes

“Deliver those that are drawn unto death, And those who totter to the slaughter - if Thou withdraw ...” i. e., “O withdraw them,” save them from their doom; in contrast toProverbs 24:10. The structure and meaning are both somewhat obscure; but the sentence is complete in itself, and is not a mere hypothesis concluded in the following verses.
