Proverbs 2:1

"Proverbs."

Key Reflection

Proverbs 2:1 begins with a parental exhortation to heed wisdom's instructions, setting the tone for the entire book as a guide for moral and ethical living. The verses encourage receiving and storing God’s commandments within one's heart, laying the foundation for a life guided by divine wisdom.

From the Scholars: Barnes' Notes

Now in the divine order comes the promiseProverbs 2:5. The conditions of its fulfillment are stated inProverbs 2:1-4in four sets of parallel clauses, each with some shade of distinct meaning. Thus, not “receiving” only, but “hiding” or treasuring up - not the “ear” only, but the “heart” - not the mere “cry,” but the eager “lifting up the voice.”
