Proverbs 12:1

"Proverbs."

Key Reflection

Proverbs 12:1 teaches, "Whoever loves correction loves knowledge, but he who hates reproof is stupid." This verse contrasts those who welcome guidance and instruction with those who reject it, framing the former as wise and the latter as foolish. In first-century culture, receiving correction was seen as an essential part of wisdom and self-improvement; thus, those open to feedback were viewed as keen learners, while those resistant were considered intellectually stagnant or even foolish.

From the Scholars: Barnes' Notes

Brutish -Dumb as a brute beast. The difference between man and brute lies chiefly in the capacity of the former for progress and improvement, and that capacity depends upon his willingness to submit to discipline and education. ComparePsalms 49:12.
