Numbers 7:1

"Numbers."

Key Reflection

In Numbers 7:1, we read, "On the day that Moses had finished setting up the tabernacle and had anointed it and sanctified it with all its furniture, and the altar with all its vessels, and had anointed and sanctified them." This verse describes a moment of completion in the establishment of the tabernacle. The text highlights the comprehensive nature of the consecration process, which involved not only the main structure but also all its furnishings and the altar. This detail underscores the thoroughness with which God's presence was to dwell within the sacred space, setting the stage for the ongoing worship and service that would take place there.

From the Scholars: Barnes' Notes

On the day that -i. e. “at the time that,” compareGenesis 2:4. The presentation of the gifts in fact occupied twelve days, as the sequel shows. The enactments set forth in the chapters fromLeviticus 10:0toNumbers 6:0inclusive, were doubtless promulgated at various times between the consecration of the tabernacle and the departure from Sinai, but are for convenience set out connectedly. The contents of the present chapter are accordingly placed after them. The order pursued throughout is justly noted as one which would naturally suggest itself to a narrator who was contemporary with the events.
