Numbers 17:10

"Moses brought out all the rods from before the LORD to all the children of Israel. They looked, and each man took his rod."

Key Reflection

In Numbers 17:10, Moses displays Aaron's rod among the other tribal leaders' rods for all the Israelites to see. This act is a dramatic demonstration of God's chosenness of Aaron as the priestly leader. The original audience would have recognized this as a pivotal moment, confirming Aaron’s unique role and dispelling any doubts about his authority amidst potential rival claimants.

From the Scholars: Barnes' Notes

The testimony -i. e. the two tables of the Law; compareExodus 25:16note. No doubt the rod lay in front of the tables within the ark. In the days of Solomon1 Kings 8:9there was nothing in the ark save the Two tables. Aaron’s rod was probably lost when the ark was taken by the Philistines.
