Micah 5:9

"The remnant of Jacob will be among the nations, among many peoples, like a lion among the animals of the forest, like a young lion among the flocks of sheep; who, if he goes through, treads down and tears in pieces, and there is no one to deliver."

Key Reflection

Micah 5:9 paints a vivid picture of the survival and strength of the remnant of Jacob amidst the nations. This verse likens them to a lion among wild animals and a young lion among sheep, symbolizing their power and protection. The imagery suggests that despite being surrounded by many peoples, they will dominate and subdue those around them, leaving no one to challenge or deliver a blow against them—emphasizing both their resilience and the divine strength赋予他们力量。这一比喻不仅展示了他们在外邦中的强大和保护,也预示了神在他们身上的应许与扶持。通过这样的形象描绘,先知传达了一个信息:即使身处逆境,选民仍会得胜,并依靠耶和华的力量站立起来。

From the Scholars: Barnes' Notes

Their hand shall be lifted up upon their adversaries -The might of the Church is the Might of Christ in her, and the glory of the Church is His from whom it comes and to whom it returns. It is all one, whether this be said to Christ or to the “remnant of Jacob, that is, His Church. Her “enemies” are His, and her’s only because they are His, and hate her as belonging to Him. They “shall be cut off,” either ceasing to be His enemies, or ceasing to be, as Julian or Arius or antichrist, “whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of His Mouth and shall destroy with the brightness of His Coming”2 Thessalonians 2:8.
