In Mark 9:3, after six days, Jesus took Peter, James, and John to a secluded mountaintop, where He underwent a transformative change before their eyes. This event, occurring on the seventh day of their ascent, echoes the significance of the Sabbath and points to divine rest and renewal, much like God's rest on the seventh day of creation in Genesis 2:2-3. The transformation itself is reminiscent of Elijah’s experiences with Moses and Elijah in the Transfiguration, highlighting Jesus’ identity as both the fulfillment of the Law and a prophet among prophets (Matthew 17:3).
