Luke 3:20

"but Herod the tetrarch, being reproved by him for Herodias, his brother’s wife, and for all the evil things which Herod had done,"

Key Reflection

In the first-century Roman province of Judea, the tetrarch Herod Antipas was a complex figure whose rule often clashed with religious and political expectations. John the Baptist's bold reproof of Herod for his marriage to Herodias, half-sister of Philip (his brother), and for other “evil things,” would have been shocking to the original audience. This act challenged not just Herod’s personal conduct but also his standing as a ruler who was supposed to uphold moral and religious norms, making John's condemnation both daring and dangerous.
