Luke 10:7

"If a son of peace is there, your peace will rest on him; but if not, it will return to you."

Key Reflection

This verse emphasizes that when Jesus’ disciples enter a home or town with the message of peace, they should remain and receive hospitality. If the dwelling is welcoming, the spiritual peace they bring will stay there; if not, it returns to them, symbolizing their mission to seek peace wherever they go.

From the Scholars: Barnes' Notes

Verse 7. See Barnes on "Mt 10:11". On this passage Dr. Thomson (The Land and the Book, vol. i. p. 534) remarks: "The reason [for the command, 'Go not from house to house'] is very obvious to one acquainted with Oriental customs. When a stranger arrives in a village or an encampment, the neighbours, one after another, must invite him to eat with them.
