Leviticus 8:6

"Moses said to the congregation, “This is the thing which the LORD has commanded to be done.”"

Key Reflection

In the ancient Near East, religious rituals and priestly duties were strictly prescribed by divine command. When Moses told the congregation of Leviticus 8:6 that "this is the thing which the LORD has commanded to be done," he was emphasizing the sacred and authoritative nature of these instructions. The original audience would have understood this as a solemn declaration, indicating that the upcoming ritual—likely involving Aaron's consecration as priest—was not merely a human decision but a divine ordinance to be carried out meticulously without deviation.

See the marginal reference. This bathing, which the high priest had also to go through on the day of atonement, was symbolic of the spiritual cleansing required of all2 Corinthians 7:1, but especially of those who had to draw near to God to make reconciliation for the sins of the peopleHebrews 7:26;Matthew 3:15.
