In Leviticus 25:22, God speaks to Israel through Moses about the Sabbath year of rest and restoration. The original audience would understand that after six years of regular farming, during the seventh year, known as the Sabbatical year, the land was to lie fallow, allowing it to rejuvenate naturally. Remarkably, God promises that the produce from the sixth year would be so abundant that it would sustain the people for three subsequent years without needing to cultivate the land in those intervening years. This not only provided practical relief but also underscored God’s provision and care for His people, reinforcing their trust in divine sovereignty over agricultural cycles.
