Lamentations 3:43

"“We have transgressed and have rebelled. You have not pardoned."

Key Reflection

In the heart-wrenching lament of Lamentations 3:43, the exiles confessed their sins and acknowledged God's just retribution. The people understood that despite their transgressions and rebellion against God, He had not shown them mercy. This verse encapsulates the despair and remorse felt by those who had been carried away into exile due to their disobedience, highlighting the severity of their situation and the unyielding nature of divine justice in their context.

From the Scholars: Barnes' Notes

In verses 43-66, far from pardoning, God is still actively punishing His people. Rather, “Thou hast covered” Thyself “with wrath and pursued (Lamentations 1:3note) us.” The covering (here and inLamentations 3:44) is that of clothing and enwrapping.
