"Gideon came to the Jordan and passed over, he and the three hundred men who were with him, faint, yet pursuing."

Key Reflection

In Judges 8:5, Gideon and his small band of three hundred men pursue the Midianite kings Zebah and Zalmunna after a significant victory. The verse sets the stage for an intense and dramatic confrontation, highlighting Gideon's determination to ensure that justice is served by personally confronting the enemy leaders who had previously oppressed Israel. This scene reflects the cultural expectation of personal vengeance and honor in ancient Israel, where leaders often took direct action against their foes.
