In Judges 11:26, Jephthah makes a pointed comparison between himself and Balak, king of Moab. The original audience would understand that Balak had attempted to hire Balaam to curse Israel, leading to conflict and the eventual defeat of Moab in previous narratives (Numbers 22-24). By asking this question, Jephthah is subtly asserting his own military prowess and implying that he has already faced and defeated enemies more formidable than those Balak had confronted.
