Job 2:8

"So Satan went out from the presence of the LORD, and struck Job with painful sores from the sole of his foot to his head."

Key Reflection

In this passage, the spiritual significance lies in demonstrating God's sovereignty over evil forces, as Satan is granted permission to test Job through physical suffering that affects him entirely, from his feet to his head, symbolizing comprehensive affliction and testing of faith.

And he took him a potsherd -The word used hereחרשׁchârâshmeans a fragment of a broken vessel; see the notes atIsaiah 45:9. The Septuagint renders itὄστρακονostrakon- “a shell.” One object of taking this was to remove from his body the filth accumulated by the universal ulcer, compareJob 7:4-5; and another design probably was, to “indicate” the greatness of his calamity and sorrow.
