Job 19:4

"You have reproached me ten times. You aren’t ashamed that you attack me."

Key Reflection

In Job 19:4, Job directly confronts his accusers, highlighting their consistent and relentless criticism. By stating they have reproached him "ten times," Job emphasizes the frequency and intensity of their attacks, suggesting a pattern of behavior that has persisted over time. The second part, "You aren’t ashamed that you attack me," reveals the lack of remorse or embarrassment among his critics as they continue to assail him without concern for propriety or justice. This dynamic underscores the harshness of Job's situation and the callousness of those around him who fail to show compassion in his time of distress.

From the Scholars: Barnes' Notes

And be it indeed that I have erred -Admitting that I have erred, it is my own concern. You have a right to reproach and revile me in this manner. Mine error abideth with myself -I must abide the consequences of the error.” The design of this seems to be to reprove what he regarded as an improper and meddlesome interference with his concerns. Or it may be an expression of a willingness to bear all the consequences himself. He was willing to meet all the fair results of his own conduct.
