Jeremiah 5:19

"“But even in those days,” says the LORD, “I will not make a full end of you."

Key Reflection

In first-century Judah, this verse would have resonated as a message of hope amidst despair. The people were likely experiencing severe judgment and exile, but Jeremiah’s prophecy assured them that even in the midst of their trials, God did not intend to completely destroy them. This promise of partial preservation was a lifeline for those facing the dire consequences of their sins, providing comfort that God would not utterly abandon His covenant people.

From the Scholars: Barnes' Notes

The reason why God so chastises His people. As they in a land especially consecrated to Yahweh had served “strange” (i. e., foreign gods, so shall they in a land belonging to others be the slaves of strangers.
