Jeremiah 49:21

"Therefore hear the counsel of the LORD, that he has taken against Edom, and his purposes that he has purposed against the inhabitants of Teman: Surely they will drag them away, the little ones of the flock. Surely he will make their habitation desolate over them."

Key Reflection

The people of Edom and Teman would have recognized Jeremiah’s prophecy as a continuation of divine judgment against their nation, drawing on longstanding conflicts between Israel and surrounding nations. The imagery of dragging away the little ones and making their dwellings desolate would evoke memories of past conquests, emphasizing that this time it is the Lord Himself who brings about such destruction, signaling a severe and inevitable punishment for Edom’s actions.
