Jeremiah 48:7

"Flee! Save your lives! Be like the juniper bush in the wilderness."

Key Reflection

The verse from Jeremiah 48:7, which reads, "Cursed is he who does the work of the LORD negligently; and cursed is he who keeps back his sword from blood," provides a stark warning against neglecting one's duties in God’s service or withholding judgment when it is due. This text reflects a context where divine justice is emphasized—those who fail to perform their appointed tasks, whether in service or in delivering judgments, face condemnation. The image of the juniper bush in the wilderness from another passage you mentioned serves as a metaphor for resilience and steadfastness, which contrasts with the negligence described here. In broader biblical terms, this verse underscores the importance of faithfulness and active participation in God’s work, drawing a sharp line between those who fulfill their responsibilities and those who shirk them.

Works -Possibly the products of labor. The versions render fortifications. Chemosh -As the national god of MoabNumbers 21:29, he represents the whole land; and his being led into captivity implies the total ruin of those under his protection. His name here spelled Chemish is repeated in Car-chemish, i. e., the fortress of Chemish.
