Jeremiah 29:22

"The LORD of Armies, the God of Israel, says concerning Ahab the son of Kolaiah, and concerning Zedekiah the son of Maaseiah, who prophesy a lie to you in my name: “Behold, I will deliver them into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon; and he will kill them before your eyes."

Key Reflection

This passage highlights God's sovereignty over the false prophets Ahab and Zedekiah, whom He condemns for their lies. Their fate is sealed by God, as they will be delivered into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar, where they will face death before the eyes of those who trusted them, serving as a stark warning against following false teachings.

From the Scholars: Barnes' Notes

A curse -There is a play here of words. which probably was the cause why the death of these men passed into a proverb. One of them was named ben-Kolaiah; and they are to be made a curse (קללהqelâlâh), because Nebuchadnezzar had roasted (קלהqâlâh) them. Compare the marginal reference note.
