Jeremiah 12:11

"Many shepherds have destroyed my vineyard. They have trodden my portion under foot. They have made my pleasant portion a desolate wilderness."

Key Reflection

In Jeremiah 12:11, the prophet laments how multiple shepherds (rulers or leaders) have ravaged God’s vineyard (Israel), trampling and desecrating what was once a fruitful and pleasant land. This imagery underscores the corruption and neglect of those entrusted with leadership, leading to spiritual and physical destruction.

From the Scholars: Barnes' Notes

Desolate -The force of the protest lies in this word. Thrice the prophet uses it. Layeth it to heart -Rather, laid it “to heart.” The desolate land must put up its silent cry to God, because the people had refused to see the signs of the coming retribution.
