Isaiah 60:15
"The sons of those who afflicted you will come bowing to you; and all those who despised you will bow themselves down at the soles of your feet. They will call you the LORD’s City, the Zion of the Holy One of Israel."
Key Reflection
In Isaiah 60:15, the prophet is addressing the restoration and glory of Jerusalem after a period of Babylonian exile. The original audience would have understood that the verse foretold a reversal of their fortunes; those who had oppressed them—specifically referring to the Babylonians—would now come humbly seeking favor and protection from God’s chosen city, Jerusalem. The imagery of bowing down at the soles of the feet symbolizes complete submission and reverence, indicating that the former enemies would acknowledge Jerusalem as the holy city dedicated to the Lord, renaming it “the LORD's City” and “the Zion of the Holy One of Israel.”
