Isaiah 57:14

"When you cry, let those whom you have gathered deliver you, but the wind will take them. A breath will carry them all away, but he who takes refuge in me will possess the land, and will inherit my holy mountain.”"

Key Reflection

Isaiah 57:14 speaks to the temporal and transient nature of human attempts at salvation and protection, contrasting them with God’s eternal and steadfast presence. When people cry out for help in times of trouble, they often rely on idols or false gods, which are as unreliable as a fleeting wind that carries away everything in its path. In contrast, those who take refuge in the Lord will find true security and inheritance in His holy mountain, symbolizing the eternal and unshakeable promise of God's protection and blessings.

From the Scholars: Barnes' Notes

And shall say -Lowth, ‘Then will I say.’ Noyes, ‘Men will say.’ The wordאמר'âmarseems to be used here impersonally, and to mean, ‘One shall say;’ that is it shall be said. The Septuagint and the Syriac render it, ‘They shall say.’ The idea is, that the obstacles would be removed from the path of those who put their trust in God.
