Isaiah 49:19

"Lift up your eyes all around, and see: all these gather themselves together, and come to you. As I live,” says the LORD, “you shall surely clothe yourself with them all as with an ornament, and dress yourself with them, like a bride."

Key Reflection

Isaiah 49:19 is a powerful declaration of divine support and protection for the people of Israel. The Lord assures His chosen ones that kings and queens will honor them by bowing down and serving as nurturing figures, much like foster parents and nursing mothers would care for a child. This imagery not only highlights the dignity and value placed upon God’s people but also envisions a future where even those in positions of power will humbly submit to Israel, symbolizing a time when God’s favor and strength are evident to all nations.

From the Scholars: Barnes' Notes

For thy waste and thy desolate places -Thy land over which ruin has been spread, and ever which the exile nation mourns. And the land of thy destruction -That is, thy land laid in ruins. The construction is not uncommon where a noun is used to express the sense of an adjective. Thus inPsalms 2:6, the Hebrew phrase (margin) is correctly rendered ‘my holy hill.’ Here the sense is, that their entire country had been so laid waste as to be a land of desolation. Shall even now be too narrow -Shall be too limited to contain all who shall become converted to the true God.
