Isaiah 26:16

"You have increased the nation, O LORD. You have increased the nation! You are glorified! You have enlarged all the borders of the land."

Key Reflection

Isaiah 26:16 proclaims God's role in the prosperity and expansion of the nation, likely referring to Israel after their return from exile in Babylon. The original audience would have seen this as a testament to divine favor, understanding that the increase in population and territory was a direct result of God’s power and protection, reinforcing his glory and authority over the land.

From the Scholars: Barnes' Notes

Poured out a prayer -Margin, ‘Secret speech.’ The Hebrew wordלחשׁlachashmeans properly a whispering, muttering; and thru a sighing, a calling for help. This is the sense here. In their calamity they sighed, and called on God for help.
