Hosea 8:14

"As for the sacrifices of my offerings, they sacrifice meat and eat it, but the LORD doesn’t accept them. Now he will remember their iniquity, and punish their sins. They will return to Egypt."

Key Reflection

This passage highlights that superficial religious rituals without genuine repentance and devotion are unacceptable to God. Instead of leading to holiness, such practices lead to divine judgment and a return to the slavery and idolatry of Egypt, symbolizing a spiritual bondage.

From the Scholars: Barnes' Notes

For Israel hath forgotten his Maker -God was his Maker, not only as the Creator of all things, but as the Author of his existence as a people, as He saith, “hath he not made thee, and established thee?”Deuteronomy 32:6. And buildeth temples -as for the two calves, at Bethel and at Dan. Since God had commanded to build one temple only, that at Jerusalem, to “build temples” was in itself sin.
